Playing With Watercolor

We've been playing with watercolors as a rendering technique recently in our graphics class.  It's fun and quite relaxing!  I think it's one of the few times where our whole class has been silent for an extended period of time!  The first assignment was to abstract an interior space:

feed the seed.

So, if you are a regular here at Artist Adventures (yes, all two of you.....), you may have noticed a new title.  I haven't like the "Artist Adventures" title for a very long time.  It was something I just threw up as the blog title to get something up there when I didn't think I would actually keep up with the blog.  The more I posted, the more people started reading, the harder it became to come up with a name that fit.
I asked my classmates to brainstorm and no one could come up with something that wasn't cheesy (or, should I say as cheesy as Artist Adventures).  Finally, true to form, I had a brainstorming session with my family.  Let's just say when I need an opinion, I know they're good for one.  My cousin, Michael, was in town and came up with the word "seed."  After rolling it around for a while I realized it was PERFECT.  It's where my story begins.  School is the start of my new career.  My first project in school centered around a seed.  A seed gathers all that it can and grows and creates.

And that is what I hope to do.

Squirrely

Need a new font?

Sometimes you just want to communicate an idea or concept through typography (fancy term for font.)  Many of you may already be familiar with this website, but I thought I'd share.  http://www.fontsquirrel.com/ is a great place to download fonts.
It's very easy to install them.  Just place them in a file that will be easy to find later.  Look in your control panel--> Appearance and Themes --> on the left side "font" --> File --> Install New Font.  Then just go in and select where you placed the file.  Don't forget to unzip any files!

Here are some of the ones I've downloaded recently...

Research

I'm going to try to be better about posting daily.  I can't make any promises, but I will keep doing my best to post something everyday.  Keep checking back for details!  We just got a new studio project today designing a space for an ad agency.  Should be fun!  I've also been working very hard on my portfolio and internship applications.

Speaking of internships....

I want to do my internship in Portland because it really is the best place to learn about green design/ sustainability.  I've been applying to places, but unfortunately, I haven't heard back yet.  We'll keep our fingers crossed.

On a brighter note,  I applied for a travel grant to conduct some research in Portland and I got part of a trip to Portland funded!  So, whether I get an internship or not, I will be visiting Portland and studying sustainability :)  I'm very happy about this opportunity.  I'm even more excited because my cousin lives there with his awesome wife and I'm going to finally get to see the house they completely reconstructed.

Pediatric Office

You haven't head from me in a little while.  That's because I've been holed up in a little room designing, rendering, photoshopping and InDesigning my little fingers to the bone.  I am working on so few hours of sleep I can't really put sentences together very well, so I think I'll just let the presentation do the talking for me.  I'll repost later and explain the project a little more in detail.  Still needs some work.  Critique was today.  Here ya go:
